- A lot of people have been asking if there is an Archie for Winsock (including
- me). What I have found is that the only archie available is the one that is
- distributed with Trumpet Winsock which is pretty primitive. I believe we need
- someone to write one that has a nice interface and works well. I would except
- for a couple of reasons:
-
- 1. I'm too busy getting a B.S. in Computer Science Degree.
- 2. I know almost nothing about programming in Windows or telecommuncations in
- general.
-
- If anybody does decide to write, I offer my services to alpha test it.

- Try putting the following in your .login:
-
- setenv DISPLAY `who am i | cut -d'(' -f2 | cut -d')' -f1 -s`:0
-
- Or alternatively set up an alias for xterm utilizing the above.
-
- As a sidenote, where can I get more information about X-win packages? Is
- there some freeware or shareware repository for these packages?

- Subject: Problem with MS Winsock for Workgroups
-
- Hi there,
-
- I have been experiencing problems with using Microsoft's TCP/IP stack for
- Windows for Workgoups 3.1.
-
- A am using asynchronous notifications, in particular the FD_WRITE message.
- Upon receiving an FD_WRITE, I send as much data as the send buffers can
- support. When the buffers are full, the send() function is supposed to
- return a WSAEWOULDBLOCK error state, and an FD_WRITE posted when buffer
- space is available.
-
- What I am experiencing is the following: When the buffers are full, the
- send() function appears to return 0 bytes sent, instead of SOCKET_ERROR.
- Also, because the send() function appeared to succeed, no further FD_WRITE
- events are generated.
-
- Is this a programming error on my behalf, or perhaps a bug in MS's
- WINSOCK.DLL?
-
- Any comments would be greatly appreciated.
- E-Mail replies to elliott@beastie.cs.und.ac.za.
-
- Thanks.
